SFHL – State of the Union Address

February 3, 2010 therockers 0

My Fellow GMs of the SFHL, This message is to remind you of the upcoming trade deadline, as well as what’s to come in the summer months. Firstly, the SFHL trade deadline will be March 5, 48 hours after the NHL trade deadline has past. This gives GMs the ability to see what players went where and therefore make trades accordingly. Trades can only be posted on the site once both parties confirm the trade to me by emailing me at dpetti@gmail.com. This way if a trade is emailed to me at 2:59 pm, but only posted on the site at 3:05pm, it will still count. Once the 3pm deadline has past, there can be no more trades until the season has ended. However, players can still be dropped for cash and free agents can be auctioned on until the end of the season. Once the season ends, players cannot be dropped for money. The cap resets itself to 60,000,000 + 7,000,000 and then a date will be established for when to send in the protected team lists. This will probably be a week after July 1st so that GMs can evaluate which players signed with which team, and therefore make their protection/resigned decisions easier. A trade freeze will be in place 72 hours prior to this date, so that teams can finalize their protected/resigned rosters. As well, the expansion/waiver draft will be held shortly thereafter. There will be a continued trade freeze then as well in order to ensure protected players remain protected and the same for resigned players, or else it will be too confusing to keep making changes. Reminder: You cannot trade Expansion/Waiver picks. They are non-moveable assets. This year there is a change in the Expansion/Waiver Draft proceedings. Only players classified as “Re-Signed” can be selected. Players from the unclaimed pool cannot be touched until the auction draft. This change has been adopted in order to adhere more closely to NHL rules, as well as it just makes more sense. Expansion and Waiver drafts are typically where players already signed with a team but left unprotected can be claimed. It also levels the playing field when dealing with free agents, so that everyone can have a chance to sign a player not currently on someone’s team. UPDATE Feb 4, 2010: To clarify, not only Resigned players can be picked. Any player that was on an SFHL team at the end of the year but left unprotected and unresigned (with corresponding increase) will be available during the Expansion/Waiver draft. This is in case some teams will not protect nor resign some of their players, and therefore not have enough players to select during this draft process. Only players that were not on a team at the end of the year are unavailable. There will now be only 1 expansion team coming in as Mr. Reinoso has accepted his ownership of a franchise in the pool. This leaves us with 16 teams for next year. I have still not decided on the action to take regarding the goalie points situation, but my decision will be made shortly (probably during the Olympic Break as this can impact trading at the deadline). Now that there is only 1 more team coming in however, I am more inclined to leave it the way it is more so than before. However, that may change as I understand that there are only 30 NHL teams with potential starting goalies. Again, my decision on this will be made shortly. I would like to officially welcome Anthony Campanella as the GM of the Montreal Xtreme. Already after less than a week on the job, Mr. Campanella has been more active than the former GM in his 1.5 years of service to the pool. Just remarkable. As well, I know for a fact that the Montreal Xtreme will be changing their name at the end of the season for something more Bruin-like. Therefore you are all allowed to make fun of him as much as you would like. No one likes a Bruins fan. Thank you all, and have fun the rest of the way. Danny Petti Commissioner of the SFHL GM of The Rockers PS. Regarding the highlited words, it was done because I know some of you have a hard time reading things properly. Hopefully this helps keep the info in your head. Lol
