Off-Season 30 Man Max Roster Size Discussion
Since this is the first off-season with the 30 man roster rule in effect I was going over a few of the complications that we might come to and try to come up with solutions to suggest to everyone. The biggest issue I see is someone going into the waiver with 30 players and not having 3 guys plucked from him. Last year we went into waiver saying that if you were over 30 players you could drop a guy, I’d like to avoid that option this year because I find it does give an advantage to a team to not have to make decisions until after the waiver draft plays out. Example if I sign 30 players and only 1 gets plucked, at the end I’ll have 32 players (yay math!), after the waiver I’d be able to decide which players to keep depending on how the waiver went, which obviously give me an advantage to being able to make decisions after the fact. My suggestion is this, from the end of the season until the waiver deadline you can be over 30 players, to ease deal making in the off-season BUT you can only protect/resign a max of 27 players. This way if no one gets plucked they will still only be at 30 players on the roster. Teams with 30 players will not be able to participate in the auction draft. Teams cannot use draft picks to go over the 30 player max, once a team reaches 30 players, all of their remaining picks will be burnt (obviously they can be traded before). Thoughts or comments? I’m not asking for a vote yet, I just want to get a feeling of what people think and open it up to ideas if anyone has something.
