The Least In the East

March 28, 2011 therockers 7

While it looks like 1st place is all wrapped up by Hot Liquid (thank you Getzlaf/Perry/Ryan) the most intriguing battle is not only for 2nd and 3rd place positions between Magnum, CR8 and Assman, but for the lower positions in the pool. Goodfellas seems to have last place locked up, a seemingly unthinkable position at the beginning of the year considering he is a former SFHL champion and was in the mix last year as well. Behind the Mask’s decension was expected as it was part of his 12 year rebuilding plan. Where it gets more fun to watch, its the 3 way battle for 3rd last between Black Sox, Mr. Motorboat & the Punishers. With the Punishers, its almost a rite of spring to see the team in the cellar of the sfhl considering his tanking usually begins in November. For Black Sox, this year was about being allergic. Being allergic to any reliable starting goaltender that is. I’ll call it the curse of Nabokov, as he traded a very good fwd who will remain nameless (rhymes with Ketterberg) for the former #1. Then dropped him, then picked him up again when the red wings signed him (and we all know how that worked out). However he’s done a good job in rebuilding with young talent and should rebound… if he can get a goalie Lastly, we have Mr. Motorboat. You’d think a team with Ovechkin, Stamkos and Tavares would be higher than where they are.. but alas, its not. Mr. Motorboat decided very early that tanking was in the cards this year and he brought the tanking to another level. While staying within league rules, Mr. Motorboat has assembled a team of NHL degenerates that would rival the Syracuse Bulldogs of “Slap Shot” set of enforcers ever to disgrace a hockey rink (Ogie Oglethorpe anyone?) That being said, who is your choice to finish in the bottom 5 of the league? Or top 5 for that matter? You can respond in the comments portion. Commissioner’s picks: Top 4 HL CR8 MAG ASS Bottom 5 BS PUN MM BTM GF

SFHL reminder

February 14, 2011 therockers 0

Hey guys, In my previous address to the league, i only mentioned what’s gonna happen for trade deadline. Here’s the full breakdown on the deadline AND the summer months for some of you that forget. Firstly, the SFHL trade deadline will be March 2nd, 11:59:59pm. This gives GMs the ability to see what players went where and therefore make trades accordingly. Trades can only be posted on the site once both parties confirm the trade to me by emailing me at dpetti@gmail.com. This way if a trade is emailed to me at 11:59 pm, but only posted on the site at 12:05pm, it will still count. Once the 11:59:59pm deadline has past, there can be no more trades until the season has ended. However, players can still be dropped for cash and free agents can be auctioned on until the end of the season. Once the season ends, players cannot be dropped for money. The cap resets itself to 60,000,000 + 7,000,000 and then a date will be established for when to send in the protected team lists. This will probably be a week after July 1st so that GMs can evaluate which players signed with which team, and therefore make their protection/resigned decisions easier. A trade freeze will be in place 72 hours prior to this date, so that teams can finalize their protected/resigned rosters. As well, the waiver draft will be held shortly thereafter. There will be a continued trade freeze then as well in order to ensure protected players remain protected and the same for resigned players, or else it will be too confusing to keep making changes. Reminder: You cannot trade Waiver picks. They are non-moveable assets, and the draft lottery only effects the farm draft, not the waiver draft. Reminder: For the Waiver Draft proceedings, only players classified as “Re-Signed” can be selected. Players from the unclaimed pool cannot be touched until the auction draft. This change has been adopted in order to adhere more closely to NHL rules, as well as it just makes more sense. The Waiver drafts are typically where players already signed with a team but left unprotected can be claimed. It also levels the playing field when dealing with free agents, so that everyone can have a chance to sign a player not currently on someone’s team. Thank you all, and have fun the rest of the way. Comments are welcomed as always, except if you’re being stupid i will ridicule you. Danny Petti Commissioner of the SFHL GM of The Rockers
