At the beginning of the year, Giulio showed some of us his predictions for the 14/15 season. I thought it would be fun to see how they compared to the final standings. Keep in mind that in Giulio’s model, he took the best 12/6/2 on each team and predicted their points using historical values and predictions made from various hockey magazines. So if a GM decided to tank or aggressively go for it, it wouldn’t be represented in the predicted finish column.
As you can see, the predictions are pretty good. The biggest movers were PAT (up 6 from 12th prediction to 6th) and TM (predicted 1st and finished 13th, a difference of 12(!)).
Most of the predictions came within 2 places of the actual finishing spot. Pretty interesting to see. Closer to the beginning of next year, we will publish predictions for the upcoming season.
