  1. Although I APPROVE this trade as it does not infringe any rules, I do not agree with fact that we can easily replace our top players whenever they get injured by trading with a team that is tanking. All things being equal, this trade if totally fair, but all things are not equal. One GM encountered misfortune and is reversing that same misfortune by simply trading it away to someone who has clearly removed himself from the relevance of this season. It’s just too easy. A higher price needs to be paid. Other assets should be considered in order to adjust for the injury and not the injured player himself, especially when he is out for an extended period of time and winds up on a tanking team’s bench. Like any other pool, this one is based on knowledge and luck (both good and bad). By allowing these trades to take place so easily, we are eliminating the bad luck factor which I believe is a requirement. I know this is a fantasy league and there are certain areas where fantasy and NHL are significantly different, but I believe this is one of the few areas where maybe we should act as if this league was the real thing. Again, there is nothing wrong with this trade as per the rules and I am ok with this kind of trade continuing to take place for this season, but I think this is something that needs to be discussed collectively during the off season. If I’m the only one who has a problem with this, then fine. I’ll just deal with it with no hard feelings lol. Lets discuss this further when the time comes and see if changes are worth being made.

  2. Completely disagree, this is a “going for it” trade in that Danny has overpaid to continue competing, and has sacrificed what would have been one of his top forwards next season for a better defensive option this year.

Trades are made for this exact reason, and in no way is this not fair. approve.

  3. Danny did not overpay at all and no way would pavelski have been one of his “top forwards”, him and ruutu are even having the same year. I agree that this a going for it trade, but at the same time I agree with Cam that there should be a bigger price to pay.

  4. I think Pavelski would have been his fourth best, and while he and Ruutu have similar pts totals right now, Pavelski has the better track record and talent. Danny got Byfuglien, who will surely help him right now, and gave up a lesser d-man (right now anyway, since Pronger is hurt) and downgraded a forward (only slightly since Pavelski is DTD as well) to do so – in my mind, this is fine and several deals have been done in this mold all year, some of my own included. Injuries happen to everyone, and if you can’t trade your way out of it because you’re either 1) greedy, 2) not realistic, then you suffer.

  5. I agree… you cannot eliminate the trading of injured players… all these posts concerning lineup changes for tanking and trading are simply ways to control the way a GM runs his team. If he wants to take advantage of a better pick or a better forward for next year, then they should.
